Metaphysical Mom's Musings
Today, I found myself spiraling into a whirlpool of worrisome thoughts—those pesky "what-ifs" that sneak in and steal my peace. Rather than let them take root, I decided to seek a fresh perspective. I turned to ChatGPT, my sometimes trusty digital sounding board (!), and asked: What’s a good reframe to help me reject a worrisome thought?
The initial suggestion was solid: "This thought is just a possibility, not a certainty. Worrying won’t change the outcome, but focusing on what I can control will." It made sense—shift the lens from fear to action. But I wanted something simpler, a mantra I could call on anytime worry crept in. The suggestion in reply to this was: “I release what I can't control and focus on what I can.” After a bit of back-and-forth (and a nudge to make it more emphatic and empowering), we landed on this gem:
"I choose to focus my energy and attention to where it matters. My power is in the present."
I love it. It’s bold, it’s intentional, and it reminds me that I’m not powerless against my thoughts—I’m the one steering the ship. Saying "I can’t control" felt heavy, but reframing it as a conscious choice lifted that weight and aligned perfectly with living in the now. I thanked ChatGPT and felt a little lighter—but the journey didn’t end there.
Curious for deeper insight, I turned to my tarot deck and asked, Why do I have these fearful, worrying thoughts? I pulled The Fool, and oh, what a beautiful message it brought.
In the tarot, The Fool is the wild-hearted dreamer standing at the edge of a cliff, ready to leap into the unknown. He’s the zero card—pure potential, unburdened by past baggage or future fears. Drawing this card felt like the Universe winking at me, whispering, You’re at the start of something new. Trust the journey.
The Fool doesn’t fret about what’s around the corner. He doesn’t clutch a map or demand a safety net. Instead, he embodies curiosity, excitement, and a willingness to embrace whatever comes. My worry, I realized, might stem from standing at my own cliff’s edge—teetering between the comfort of the known and the thrill of what’s next.
This card is a call to action: Take the leap. It’s not about having all the answers or feeling fully prepared (spoiler: no one ever does!). It’s about trusting that the Universe has your back. The Fool urges us to shed the heavy cloak of dread and step into life with a playful, open spirit.
Pairing my new mantra with The Fool’s energy feels like magic. When worry whispers, I can declare, "I choose to focus my energy and attention where it matters. My power is in the present," and channel The Fool’s carefree courage. Together, they remind me that fear is just a fleeting guest—not the host of my story.
The Fool also invites us to play—to see life as an experiment, a dance, a grand adventure. Why waste energy on thoughts that may never come to pass? The world is wide open, brimming with possibility. This is a time to dream big, act boldly, and let my inner child lead the way.
If you’re wrestling with worry or self-doubt, I invite you to sit with The Fool’s energy. Meditate on his daring spirit. Picture yourself at that cliff’s edge, not with trepidation, but with wonder. What if this moment—right now—is your sign to jump?
The future is a mystery, and that’s okay. Like The Fool, we don’t need to know every twist and turn ahead. We just need to trust, take a deep breath, and step forward. The Universe will catch us—I truly believe that.
So, here’s my challenge to you (and myself): Let’s laugh more, dance freely, and release the fears holding us back. Let’s choose where our energy flows and root ourselves in the power of the present. With The Fool as our guide, anything is possible.
What leap are you ready to take today?
